The City of Covington has announced the selection of 30 participants for its first Mayor’s Academy, an eight-month program intended to give residents and stakeholders a deeper understanding of city government operations.
Nearly 100 people applied for the program, which aims to involve a broad range of community members. The selected group includes individuals from neighborhoods such as Mainstrasse, Latonia, Eastside, and others. Participants come from various professional backgrounds including education, healthcare, public service, business, and nonprofit sectors.
"The members of the inaugural class embody what makes Covington a truly special place to live and work—individuals from diverse backgrounds united by a shared commitment to strengthening our community,” Mayor Ron Washington said. “It is our hope that, upon graduation, these community leaders will feel empowered to continue shaping a brighter, more vibrant future for Covington."
The academy will meet monthly from August 2025 through April 2026. Sessions will be led by local elected officials and senior city staff. Topics covered will include city administration, budgeting, public safety, public works, parks and recreation, legal matters, human resources, and neighborhood services.
While most participants are Covington residents, eligibility was also open to those working for organizations based in the city. Over the course of the program, attendees will tour city facilities and attend public meetings with department directors. The initiative is designed not only to educate but also to foster stronger relationships between residents and city government.
