Amazon has announced on X that its employees based in Atlanta have collaborated with Atlanta Public Schools and the Empty Stocking Fund to deliver more than 200,000 school supplies to over 60 public schools within the district.

The Empty Stocking Fund’s school supply distribution program provides free, grade-appropriate kits to students across 13 metro Atlanta school systems. This initiative aims to reduce barriers to classroom readiness for children from low-income households. Amazon's partnership in this year's delivery supports efforts that enhance access to public education.

According to the "Two AtlantAs" report by EdEquityATL, over 77% of students in Atlanta Public Schools are economically disadvantaged. These figures are concentrated in neighborhoods that have experienced long-term underinvestment. Programs supported by private-sector partners, including Amazon, bring additional supplies and resources to these school communities.

A 2024 survey by DEMDACO reveals that 94% of U.S. teachers purchase supplies for their students, with 55% spending over $250 annually. Public-private collaborations aim to alleviate this burden by supplying classrooms directly. Amazon’s involvement in this recent Atlanta delivery contributes to closing resource gaps for teachers and students.

Amazon operates more than 15 warehouses and fulfillment centers in Georgia, including facilities in Atlanta, Stone Mountain, and Macon. These locations contribute significantly to employment and logistics capacity across the state. Local initiatives like the school supply drive demonstrate how Amazon leverages its infrastructure for area-wide outreach.
