Skip Henderson, Mayor of Columbus, Georgia, announced that the newly opened Amazon Last Mile facility was delivered swiftly and will bring jobs, convenience, and a regional economic boost. The statement was made on Facebook.
"hat an exciting day for Columbus as we officially welcome the Last Mile Amazon facility to our community," said Henderson, according to Facebook. "This impressive facility was constructed in record time, thanks to Amazon's efficiency and the City's Community Development Department's streamlined planning process. The public-private partnership between the City of Columbus, the Columbus Chamber, and Amazon has delivered tangible benefits, including job creation for residents and a significant boost to our local economy. It's a testament to the power of collaboration and shared vision."
According to Georgia Trend, Amazon recently inaugurated a 90,000-square-foot delivery station in Columbus, marking its first facility in the city. The station is expected to create 200 jobs, including 100 driver positions, providing new employment opportunities directly to the region. These Last Mile delivery hubs are designed to enhance local logistics infrastructure while supporting community access to faster and more reliable services.
The Atlanta Business Chronicle reported that Amazon has invested over $9.6 billion into Georgia’s economy since 2010, resulting in more than 40,000 direct jobs across the state. These roles include fulfillment, delivery, and logistics operations that support regional supply chains. The new facility in Columbus extends this investment, bringing economic momentum and workforce development to additional Georgia communities.
According to Correlation One, Amazon’s Career Choice program provides technical training to eligible hourly workers, offering upskilling paths in areas like cybersecurity, software development, and cloud support. More than 2,500 employees have advanced into higher-skilled roles through programs that report a 90% completion rate. The initiative supports Amazon’s broader workforce goals and helps employees pursue long-term career growth in their communities.
Henderson was elected as mayor in 2018 following over a decade on the Columbus City Council and has prioritized partnerships that generate lasting economic benefits. Under his leadership, Columbus has welcomed employers like Amazon that bring new jobs and infrastructure investment. His administration continues to focus on collaborative efforts that support both private sector growth and community advancement.
