The hallway leading to the Critical Care Unit at OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital now features a memorial known as the "Wall of Heroes." The new installation includes updated paint, signage, and photographs. It is dedicated to honoring patients who have donated organs or tissue.
“May this wall remind us every day of a quiet heroism that lives on in the walls of this hospital,” said Erin Stine, senior advisor of philanthropy for the OhioHealth Foundation.
Currently, eight donors are featured on the wall. There is space for additional honorees in the future, allowing families to visit and see their loved ones recognized for their contributions. Among those honored is Steven Beasley. His widow, Milly Beasley, visited the wall for the first time last week.
“It's beautiful,” said Milly Beasley.
Although Steven Beasley was not able to donate his organs, he was able to donate tissue that restored sight to another person.
“For him to be able to honor somebody, with him not having good sight, to give someone good sight, we just thought that was a great honor,” said Beasley. “So we just decided to go ahead and do it.”
Milly Beasley joined several other family members at an emotional ceremony marking the unveiling of the memorial wall.
