COVINGTON, Ky. – An event focused on the restoration of historic homes is set to take place on Saturday, May 17, at Newport Intermediate School. The NKY Restoration Weekend offers a range of resources and expertise for those interested in maintaining or restoring historical properties.
The event, sponsored by Covington Economic Development’s Historic Preservation Office among others, will feature speakers covering various topics such as plaster repair, wood window rehabilitation, box gutters, repointing masonry, energy-saving techniques with storm windows, and applying for Kentucky historic tax credits. Attendees can also learn about buying and insuring historic properties and financing renovations.
Kaitlin Bryan from Covington’s Historic Preservation Office remarked on the significance of the event: “This is a great event, whether you’re looking to understand the historic home you purchased, learn how to fix problems in old buildings, or simply connect with artisans and tradespeople with specialized skills.”
NKY Restoration comprises a group of enthusiasts from businesses, non-profits, and preservation offices in Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati. The annual weekend aims to foster interest in local history while providing homeowners with solutions for their restoration projects.
The event typically attracts up to 300 participants. Registration is recommended by Friday afternoon but can be done onsite Saturday morning. Additional details are available online.
Participants will benefit from free parking at the school along with complimentary coffee and snacks provided by Biggby Coffee. A free lunch will also be offered courtesy of local restaurants.
