Kenton County is set to host its annual Spring Clean Up, offering residents an opportunity to dispose of household items without charge over a two-day period. Proof of residency will be required for participation in the event.

The clean-up will take place at two locations: Kenton County Public Works (KCPW) and Piner Elementary. KCPW, located at 420 Independence Station Road, Independence, will accept tires and appliances from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on both days. Meanwhile, Piner Elementary at 2845 Piner Ridge Road, Morning View, will not accept tires and appliances and will operate from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on April 25 and from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on April 26.

Residents can dispose of various items including appliances (with a $25 fee for those containing Freon), up to two mattresses or box springs per household, yard debris, electronics with power cords like TVs and monitors, vehicle and rechargeable batteries, all fluids removed from lawn equipment, scrap metal, and up to eight tires per residential address with an additional $3 fee per extra tire.

Items that are not accepted include hazardous materials, pesticides, paint or stains (though free paint hardeners are available), liquid waste, fire extinguishers, tanks or cylinders such as propane tanks, oil and antifreeze, fluorescent bulbs, shingles, concrete or dirt materials as well as junk vehicles including boats.

Businesses involved in auto or construction work or junk removal services are advised they will be turned away from the event. Additionally, participants should cover open loads with tarps and secure loose items for safety reasons.

"Kenton County Public Works has the right to refuse any and all items transported to Public Works for disposal."

Participants must unload their own vehicles during the event.
