Northern Kentucky University's women's soccer team has secured the second seed in the Horizon League Tournament following a narrow victory over Wright State. The Norse, playing at NKU Soccer Stadium in Highland Heights, Kentucky, won their sixth consecutive match with a 1-0 scoreline on Tuesday.

The team's regular season concluded with an 11-6-1 overall record and an 8-1-1 mark in the Horizon League. This achievement marks their most successful season since 2016 when they recorded 13 wins.

In the match against Wright State, both teams attempted 13 shots each, but Northern Kentucky had a slight edge with seven shots on goal compared to Wright State's six. Goalkeeper Megan Gessner was instrumental in securing the win for NKU by making six saves and achieving a shutout. Gessner has not conceded a goal in her last 216 minutes of play.

The decisive moment came in the 81st minute when Emilie Doersching scored her first goal of the season, giving Northern Kentucky the lead they maintained until the final whistle.

Next up for Northern Kentucky is a trip to Milwaukee for the Horizon League Championships semifinals scheduled for next Thursday.
