A record 116 college football players from the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) have been named to the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy Watch List, according to an announcement by the Wuerffel Foundation. The award recognizes student-athletes who demonstrate a commitment to community service, academic achievement, and athletic performance.
The Allstate Wuerffel Trophy is considered one of college football’s leading honors for community service. Named after Danny Wuerffel, the 1996 Heisman Trophy winner and University of Florida quarterback, the trophy highlights his ongoing dedication to service and leadership beyond sports. This year marks the 21st anniversary of the award.
“Every year, I’m deeply moved by these student-athletes,” said Danny Wuerffel. “They lead with their heart. Each of our nominees is making a real difference in the lives of others, and their stories remind us what true greatness looks like.”
For a second consecutive year, Allstate is partnering with the Wuerffel Foundation to bring together top community service awards through the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team. Eleven athletes from this watch list will be selected for that team and serve as semifinalists for the trophy.
The final recipient of the 2025 Allstate Wuerffel Trophy will be chosen by a national voting committee with input from fans. The winner will also become Captain of the Allstate AFCA Good Works Team and will be announced live on December 12 during The Home Depot College Football Awards show on ESPN. A presentation gala is scheduled for January 31, 2026 at Atlanta’s College Football Hall of Fame.
Nick Dawkins from Penn State, last year’s recipient, participated in Heisman Trophy ceremonies in New York City alongside Danny Wuerffel—a tradition set to continue with this year’s honoree.
Corporate partners supporting this award include Dart Container Corporation/Solo Cup and Herff Jones.
The trophy is part of the National College Football Awards Association (NCFAA), which brings together major college football honors since its founding in 1935. More information about NCFAA awards can be found at https://www.ncfaa.org/.
