The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA) has submitted comments on the Colorado Privacy Act rules, focusing on regulations governing children's online data. The response was directed to the Colorado Office of the Attorney General.

CCIA highlighted the need for careful drafting of system design feature regulations to prevent restrictions that could limit minors' online activities. They expressed concerns about potential prohibitions that might prevent minors in Colorado from accessing additional content, such as scrolling to a new chapter in an online book or receiving recommendations for related materials.

Aodhan Downey, West Regional State Policy Manager at CCIA, stated: “We share the goals of protecting children online and are incentivized to do so. At a time when online services and states are aiming to minimize data collection, regulatory frameworks should avoid one-size-fits-all mandates that could unintentionally undermine minors’ privacy. CCIA appreciates the opportunity to provide input and looks forward to working with regulators.”
