An OhioHealth Mansfield Hospital surgery technician, Taylor Sexton, will be honored at an upcoming Columbus Crew game for her courageous actions during a recent incident. Just over a month ago, while heading to Myrtle Beach for a softball tournament on Memorial Day Weekend, Sexton witnessed a car accident on I-71 South near Mansfield.

After observing the crash, Sexton stopped and called 911. She then crossed the highway to assist the driver, who was unharmed but shaken after falling asleep at the wheel. As they were about to move away from his damaged vehicle, a semi-truck collided with the car and guardrail.

“The semi-truck soared off I-71,” Sexton recounted. She immediately contacted 911 again and made her way through obstacles to reach the overturned truck. Inside was a frightened driver with potential injuries.

Sexton helped him out of the smoking vehicle and stayed until EMS arrived. Though unable to learn his condition due to HIPAA regulations, she often thinks of him and hopes he is well.

“I hope he’s ok,” she expressed, hoping he might read this story and update her on his recovery.
