Read Ready Covington is set to host its annual Early Childhood Fun Fest on June 20, moving the event from fall to summer this year. The fest will take place at the David Housley Pavilion in Randolph Park, Covington, Kentucky, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. It is a free event open to families with children aged six years or younger, aiming to support early childhood development and school readiness.

Mary Kay Connolly, Director of Read Ready Covington, explained that the timing change allows for developmentally appropriate activities and better preparation for the upcoming school year. "This is an opportunity for families to engage in developmentally appropriate games and activities with their children," said Connolly. She emphasized the importance of the early years in child development and encouraged participation.

Activities include PNC’s Grow Up Great Mobile Learning Adventure, which educates parents about early childhood education through interactive exhibits. Families can also participate in Box Play hosted by Funshine and Keep the Beat activity hosted by James E. Biggs Early Childhood Center. Additional attractions include a petting zoo from Hillview Farms and entertainment from NKCAC HeadStart’s Ms. Kim.

The event will provide free Family Guides from the Kentucky Department of Education while supplies last, along with refreshments sponsored by NKCAC HeadStart, Read Ready Covington, and Kroger.

Read Ready Covington aims to foster literacy among young children across the city and region through collaboration with various literacy champions.
