Several events are scheduled in Covington, Kentucky, to honor military personnel who lost their lives while serving the country. The Annual Memorial Day Parade and Program will be held on Monday, May 26, under the United Veterans Memorial's direction.

The day's activities will begin with observances at various military sites, followed by a parade at 2 p.m., and conclude with a service at Historic Linden Grove Cemetery & Arboretum at 3:00 p.m. "The salutes at the sites will include a prayer, a 21-gun salute, the playing of 'Taps,' and the placing of a wreath by the combined Honor Guard from the Latonia American Legion Post 203 and the Marshall Schildmeyer VFW Post 6095," said Denny Madden.

Morning events will start as follows:

- VFW Post 6095 at 347 E. 47th St. – 7 a.m.

- American Legion Post 203 on Winston Highway – 7:45 a.m.

- Korean War Memorial at Ritte’s Corner – 7:55 a.m.

- Vietnam Memorial at 38th and Church streets – 8:05 a.m.

- World War II Memorial at Holmes High School – 8:30 a.m.

- Mother of God Cemetery at 3125 Madison Ave. – 8:45 a.m.

- Floral Hills Memorial Gardens at 5336 Old Taylor Mill Road – 9:05 a.m.

Floats, vehicles, and marchers for the parade will assemble at Holmes High School starting from 1:00 p.m., entering via Eastern Avenue. The parade route includes Madison Avenue, west onto 19th Street, north on Holman Avenue, and west on 13th Street before concluding at Historic Linden Grove Cemetery & Arboretum.

Participants in the parade include city officials, police and fire vehicles, military contingents and vehicles, choirs and bands, ball teams, and fraternal organizations.

At approximately 3:00 p.m., Covington City Commissioner James Toebbe will deliver the keynote speech during the ceremony. Commissioner Toebbe has served in various branches of the military for over fifteen years. Sergeant (E-5) Robert Watson is named as Grand Marshal; he served in the U.S. Marine Corps from September of '66 through September of '69. Mayor Ron Washington is also scheduled to speak.
