TechNet has expressed its approval following the House of Representatives' decision to pass the TAKE IT DOWN Act. The organization, which includes technology CEOs and executives, emphasized the importance of this legislative move through a statement from Linda Moore, TechNet's President and CEO.
"TechNet applauds the House passage of the TAKE IT DOWN Act. This is a critical step to protect victims, hold bad actors accountable, and enable tech companies to take prompt action. Our members are deeply committed to ensuring the safety and security of users on their platforms, and we have long advocated for policies that foster responsible advancement of tech, like artificial intelligence, while safeguarding against potential harm from malicious actors."
Moore further acknowledged the efforts of bipartisan leaders in Congress and called on the President to enact the law promptly. "We commend the bipartisan leadership in the House and Senate to advance this bill and urge the President to sign it swiftly into law. TechNet looks forward to continuing to work with policymakers to keep users safe online and promote American innovation."
The TAKE IT DOWN Act requires the expeditious removal of non-consensual intimate images within a 48-hour time frame and criminalizes their publication, regardless of their authenticity. Passed by the Senate in February, the bill now awaits the President's signature.
