Covington, Ky. — The annual spring cleaning of residential streets in Covington by the Public Works Department is set to begin on Tuesday, April 1. The initiative is aimed at clearing streets of debris, dirt, and trash, which helps in maintaining clean and functional infrastructure.
Troy McCain, supervisor of Public Works' General Maintenance Division, emphasized the importance of the community's cooperation with the effort. "Sweeping streets regularly is more than just a matter of making the streets presentable, it’s also a sanitation issue and a drainage issue," McCain noted. He added, "Keeping curb lines, gutters, and streets clean of debris helps our infrastructure last longer and function better. But we can’t do it if parked cars are in the way."
The street cleaning schedule will continue until May 23, with each street being swept over two days—covering one side of the street each day. Parking restrictions will be enforced on affected days, and vehicle owners may face tickets if their cars impede street cleaning.
Residents can determine when they need to move their vehicles in two ways. They can either consult the online street sweeping schedule or check for signage posted the day before in residential areas. Permanent signage is in place in commercial districts. McCain also mentioned that the sweepers operate from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. but generally finish before lunchtime.
For individuals who might be on vacation during these months, it is advisable to check their street's dates in advance. To address any questions or concerns, residents are encouraged to contact Public Works at (859) 292-2292, while parking enforcement and ticketing inquiries should be directed to ABM Parking Services at (859) 431-7049.
