Volunteers in Covington, Kentucky, are set to participate in the third annual "Plogging Across the Bluegrass" event on Saturday. The activity combines litter collection with exercise, encouraging community engagement and environmental responsibility.
The term "plogging" merges the Swedish phrase “plocka upp,” meaning “to pick up,” with the English word “jogging.” Sheila Fields, manager of the City’s Solid Waste & Recycling Division, emphasized that this event fosters both camaraderie and community spirit.
Participants are asked to gather at 10 a.m. at West Sixth Covington Haus brewery located at 100 West Sixth St. From there, they can select one of three available routes, each approximately two miles long. The routes are expected to take about an hour and a half to complete. Afterward, participants will return to West Sixth for refreshments and a complimentary lunch provided by Smoke Justis restaurant.
The City of Covington is organizing this initiative alongside Keep Covington Beautiful, which is managed by The Center for Great Neighborhoods.
