Outdoor enthusiasts will soon have a new option to explore Doe Run Lake. On Tuesday, the Kenton County Fiscal Court awarded a bid to Schack’s Yaks, a local kayak rental company. This initiative aims to provide convenient and affordable paddling opportunities at the lake.
Starting this spring, visitors will be able to rent kayaks on-site at Doe Run Lake. This service is designed to make it easier for people to enjoy the surroundings, observe local wildlife, and experience the water without needing personal equipment.
“We’re always looking for ways to enhance our County-owned parks,” Judge/Executive Kris Knochelmann stated. “With kayak rentals, we can encourage more residents to get outside and enjoy what makes Kenton County so special.”
Each rental includes a universal life jacket and paddle, ensuring safety for all users. The process involves downloading the Koloni app on Android or Apple devices. Through the app, renters can sign waivers, make payments, and scan QR codes to access their kayaks.
Schack’s Yaks operates similar self-service kiosks in Augusta, Carrollton, Newport, and West Point.
Doe Run Lake is situated in Erlanger and spans 75 acres. It is known for its calm waters, surrounding forests, and fishing opportunities. Additionally, there are several trails available for residents. Doe Run Lake is one of seven parks owned by the county.
