Amazon has released its 2024 Pro Bono Report, which outlines the company's community impact over the past year and reflects on a decade of service. The report highlights various efforts, including assisting in the exoneration of a man wrongfully convicted for 14 years.

According to David Zapolsky, Amazon's senior vice president of global public policy and general counsel, the company's legal and policy teams have been active in areas such as wrongful conviction exoneration, voting rights, and immigrant assistance. Reflecting on his 35-year career, Zapolsky recalled a pro bono case involving a class action that secured $250,000 for families facing eviction. Since assuming the role of general counsel at Amazon in 2012, he has focused on developing the company’s pro bono program. Over the past decade, more than 2,200 employees have contributed over 65,000 hours of service globally.

Jason Lively was wrongfully convicted of first-degree murder and arson and spent 14 years in prison before his conviction was successfully appealed. Amazon assisted his legal team in building the case that led to his exoneration after a decade of legal efforts.

Lively expressed gratitude by saying: "How do you say ‘thank you’ to somebody that has given you your family, your sister, your brother, your kids, your wife, your mother? That’s what they gave me. They gave me a future. Not only that, they continue to look out for me, for nothing. They treated me that good."

Amazon offers a wide range of services including online and in-person shopping, delivery of fresh produce, media distribution through devices like Alexa and Fire TV, cloud solutions via Amazon Web Services (AWS), logistics and customer service operations. It also delivers entertainment through platforms such as Amazon Originals, Prime Video, and Audible.
