Amazon has introduced X-Ray Recaps, a new feature on its Prime Video platform that utilizes artificial intelligence to generate concise, personalized summaries for television shows. This tool is designed to provide viewers with tailored updates from the exact point they last watched, encompassing entire seasons, episodes, or specific scenes.
According to Amazon, X-Ray Recaps builds upon Prime Video's existing X-Ray capabilities by offering brief and customizable summaries of key plot points, character moments, and cliffhangers. The feature employs Amazon Bedrock and SageMaker AI models to create spoiler-free summaries from video segments, subtitles, and dialogue. Viewers can access these recaps directly from the Prime Video detail page or during playback. Options are available to view recaps for specific episodes, entire seasons, or the season-to-date.
"Prime Video product and technology teams work relentlessly behind the scenes to enhance customers’ viewing experience," said Adam Gray, vice president of product at Prime Video. "With the creation of X-Ray Recaps, we’re directly addressing a common problem customers face when streaming content: forgetting where they left off." Gray added that this context-aware functionality allows Prime Video to deliver summaries of memorable moments and important plot points so customers can quickly resume watching or rediscover their favorite series.
Prime Video offers a diverse range of movies, TV shows, and live sports content. Subscribers have the option to access additional channels such as STARZ, Paramount+, and Max through add-on subscriptions.
