With election season underway, the City of Covington has issued a reminder to candidates and their supporters about the prohibition of placing political signs on public property. This rule applies not only to candidates but also to ballot initiatives.

The areas where these restrictions apply include parks, medians, promenades, tree wells, utility poles, street signs, and strips of grass between public sidewalks and streets. City staff are authorized to remove any political signs placed in these locations without an encroachment permit. This authority extends to signs for businesses, organizations, and causes as well.

Additionally, "signs are also prohibited in the state-maintained right of way," which includes state routes maintained by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

On private property, political signs may only be placed with the owner's permission. If such permission is not obtained, the property owner can remove the sign.
