Uber has launched a number of comprehensive updates to their systems, which are efforts to improve the user experience for the over 7 million drivers and couriers worldwide that work with the company.
The announcement, made during an event in Washington, D.C., is part of the company’s ongoing commitment to enhance safety, fairness, and ease of use on its platform.
Among the key updates is the nationwide launch of a “Verified” rider badge, designed to indicate that riders have completed additional verification steps. This feature, developed in response to driver feedback, aims to boost confidence for those picking up passengers. Additionally, the "Record My Ride" feature will be accessible to all drivers, enabling them to record audio and video during trips, with the recordings encrypted and securely stored.
Other new features include Tesla integration for seamless navigation, a hands-free control option via Siri for iOS users, and a PIN verification system to ensure drivers are picking up the correct riders.
“Unlike many riders and consumers who pop in and out, the amount of time they [drivers and couriers] spend on the app is measured in hours and days – not minutes,” said Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi. “New features and app improvements have an outsized impact on their daily lives, which is why we must continuously find ways to improve their experience, day in and day out.”
Uber is also focused on improving driver-rider interactions by introducing warnings and tips for riders reported for inappropriate behavior. A pilot program allows drivers to block riders they rate 2 or 3 stars, granting them greater control over their ride requests.
In a significant redesign of the Driver app—the first major update since 2018—Uber has simplified navigation for drivers and couriers. The new layout includes an improved homescreen for easier access to critical sections like Earnings and Inbox, as well as a Work Hub for couriers seeking additional opportunities.
As of 2024, Uber has approximately 1.5 million drivers and couriers in the United States, according to data from Uber analyzed by demandsage.com
