Apple has introduced visionOS 26, a major update that enhances the capabilities of Apple Vision Pro with new spatial experiences and features. The update integrates widgets into users' spaces, utilizes generative AI for more lifelike photo depth, and allows shared spatial experiences among Vision Pro users in proximity.

Mike Rockwell, Apple's vice president of the Vision Products Group, stated, "Apple Vision Pro has defined what’s possible in this new era of spatial computing, and with visionOS 26, we’re excited to push the boundaries even further."

The update includes support for 180-degree and 360-degree content from brands like Insta360 and GoPro. It also introduces enterprise APIs for creating unique spatial experiences on visionOS. Additionally, PlayStation VR2 Sense controllers are now compatible with Apple Vision Pro.

Widgets have been enhanced to offer personalized information at a glance. They can be customized in terms of frame width, color, and depth. Users can also share spatial experiences through FaceTime or watch movies together in 3D.

Dassault Systèmes is utilizing these capabilities with their 3DLive app to visualize designs collaboratively. The Personas feature now offers improved expressivity using volumetric rendering technology.

Generative AI algorithms enhance spatial photos by providing multiple perspectives within scenes. Developers can use the Spatial Scene API to create immersive app experiences.

Safari browsing has been transformed to allow users to view articles with embedded 3D models directly on web pages. Native playback support for various content formats is included as well.

visionOS 26 supports Logitech Muse as a new accessory for precise input and interaction within collaboration apps like Spatial Analogue. Enterprise-focused APIs ensure secure access to confidential materials.

Additional features include language support expansion and Look to Scroll functionality for navigating apps using eye movements. A redesigned Control Center simplifies device management tasks.

Testing of these features is available through the Apple Developer Program starting today.
