IBM and Roche have jointly developed an AI-enabled solution to aid individuals with diabetes in managing their condition. The Accu-Chek SmartGuide Predict app, which was launched in Switzerland a few months ago, will be featured at the Swiss Economic Forum in Interlaken on June 5-6.
The app combines IBM's technological expertise with Roche's healthcare knowledge to help users manage glycemic control. It works with Roche’s Accu-Chek SmartGuide continuous glucose monitoring sensor and uses predictive algorithms based on real-time glucose data to provide insights for better glycemic management.
The collaboration aims to address the daily challenges faced by people with diabetes, such as hypoglycemia or nocturnal hypoglycemia. The app offers three predictive functionalities: Glucose Predict forecasts glucose ranges over two hours; Low Glucose Predict warns of hypoglycemia up to 30 minutes in advance; and Night Low Predict estimates nighttime hypoglycemia risk.
To expedite clinical data analysis, IBM and Roche developed a tool using IBM watsonx technology. This tool enhances workflow efficiency by digitizing and categorizing anonymized clinical data, linking it with daily activities to identify deviations and correlations.
Moritz Hartmann from Roche highlighted the potential of AI in empowering diabetes patients, emphasizing the benefits of cross-industry innovation. Christian Keller from IBM noted the importance of AI in providing customized solutions for healthcare management.
