Apple Music and Universal Music Group (UMG) have announced a collaboration to launch Sound Therapy, an audio wellness collection aimed at enhancing focus, relaxation, and sleep for listeners. This initiative is part of UMG's ongoing strategy to integrate music into health and wellbeing sectors.
Michael Nash, UMG’s executive vice president and chief digital officer, stated that the project aligns with UMG's long-term goals: “For years, elevating music’s role in health and wellbeing has been a strategic priority for UMG, linked to a potentially significant commercial opportunity, as well as something that our chairman and CEO, Sir Lucian, and the entire management team are passionate about.” He emphasized Apple’s role in this venture: “Given Apple’s leadership at the intersection of health and technology, the launch of Sound Therapy represents an important validation of our innovative, science-led Sollos initiative.”
Rachel Newman from Apple Music expressed enthusiasm about the partnership: “Every day, people around the world make Apple Music part of their daily routine... Now, with Sound Therapy, we’re proud to work alongside UMG and Sollos to bring a new listening experience to Apple Music — one that’s grounded in artistry, shaped by innovation, and designed to support wellness.”
Sound Therapy will be available exclusively on Apple Music. It combines popular songs with sound waves intended to enhance daily routines while maintaining artistic integrity. The collection is supported by scientific research using UMG's proprietary audio technologies. The tracks aim to aid relaxation or focus through psychoacoustics and cognitive science.
The project was developed by producers, scientists, and engineers at Sollos within UMG's London offices. It includes extended versions of songs from artists like Imagine Dragons and Katy Perry. The collection features three categories: Focus uses gamma waves; Relax incorporates theta waves; Sleep utilizes delta waves.
Sound Therapy complements Apple's existing health-focused offerings such as Apple Watch and HealthKit. The company plans further collaboration with Sollos and UMG to substantiate the benefits of music for wellbeing globally.
The release follows the introduction of Apple Music Chill radio station designed for continuous calmness throughout listeners' days.
