IBM and Tata Consultancy Services have partnered to advance India's quantum computing industry through Andhra Pradesh's Quantum Valley Tech Park, currently under construction in Amaravati. Discussions with the Andhra Pradesh Government revolve around installing a 156-qubit Heron quantum processor, potentially the largest in India, as part of the tech park. Tata Consultancy Services is also working with IBM to develop algorithms and applications to address India's complex challenges, offering cloud access to IBM's quantum computers for regional scientists and technologists.
Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, N. Chandrababu Naidu, stated, “Our National Quantum Mission is to make India a global hub in the quantum industry; a true center of innovation and job creation with access to the technology capable of solving some of our country’s and the world’s most pressing and complex challenges.”
Jay Gambetta, IBM Quantum Vice President, expressed enthusiasm for deploying the IBM Quantum System Two at the tech park, in collaboration with TCS, to engage India's ecosystem of developers and experts in creating quantum algorithms and applications aligned with India's National Quantum Mission.
Dr. Harrick Vin, TCS's Chief Technology Officer, noted, “Hybrid architectures are the key to overcoming intractable computing challenges, with quantum computing serving as a catalyst.” He emphasizes TCS's strategic role in supporting India's National Quantum Mission by developing quantum algorithms and applications that address complex industry problems.
The initiative aims to create a vibrant quantum ecosystem in India, providing high-end jobs, attracting talent, and drawing global investments. TCS will develop quantum applications across sectors such as life sciences, energy optimization, and cryptography, offering researchers from TCS and others the opportunity to use IBM's quantum resources.
The Government of Andhra Pradesh is focused on establishing an innovation-driven environment in the state, promoting technological advancements, and economic growth.
