Facebook announced new measures to reduce spammy content on its platform. The social media company is implementing changes to improve its Feed by helping authentic creators reach a broader audience and giving users more control over personalized content.

The company introduced a new Friends tab in the US to revive the traditional Facebook experience. Now, it has launched an initiative focusing on filtering out accounts that exploit Facebook's algorithm to gain views, followers, or unjust monetization. Although not always malicious, these tactics result in cluttered Feeds that suppress genuine content.

To address this, Facebook plans to diminish the reach of accounts engaged in spammy practices. These include posts with lengthy, misaligned captions or excessive hashtags. Such accounts will have their posts shown only to their followers and will be barred from monetization opportunities.

Furthermore, Facebook is investing in methods to eliminate accounts involved in fake engagement coordination and impostures. "Spam networks that coordinate fake engagement are an unfortunate reality for all social apps," said the company. It plans to limit comments identified as fake engagement and continue monitoring and removing fake pages. More than 100 million fake pages were removed in 2024, along with over 23 million profiles impersonating large content producers.

In response, Facebook is enhancing its Rights Manager tool to protect creators' original content. The platform also released guidance for creators producing original and engaging content to succeed on Facebook.

Meta, the parent company, emphasizes their commitment to providing a platform where people can freely express themselves. "We want the creator community to know that we're committed to rewarding creators who create and share engaging content on Facebook."
