AAA has announced the winners of its 2025 AAA Car Guide, highlighting the 2024 BMW iX xDrive50 as the overall winner and the top vehicle in the midsize SUV category. All of this year’s category winners are either electric vehicles (EV), plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEV), or hybrids. The guide includes updated scoring criteria and reintroduces the minivan category, awarding the 2024 Chrysler Pacifica PHEV Pinnacle as the best in that section.

The AAA Car Guide is known for emphasizing advanced driving assistance systems like automatic emergency braking, reverse automatic emergency braking, and lane-keeping assistance. It provides detailed reviews based on 15 criteria, including fuel efficiency, braking, and performance handling, complemented by the latest addition of infotainment usability.

The BMW iX xDrive50, repeating its success from the 2023 edition, is recognized for its impressive range, comfortable ride, responsive steering, handling, and powerful low-end torque. "SUVs are often popular amongst consumers because of their versatility, safety, and comfort," the release states.

The Chrysler Pacifica PHEV Pinnacle stands out in the minivan category. "This minivan is the only one of its kind with both gasoline-powered and plug-in hybrid options," states the release, noting the vehicle’s fuel-efficient PHEV drivetrain, all-electric range of 32 miles, spacious cabin, and attractive interior finish.

The guide also ranks vehicles in categories such as small and large cars, pickups, and small and large SUVs. For example, the Honda Civic Hybrid Sport Touring wins in the small car category, while the BMW i7 M70 leads the large car section.

AAA provides various resources for EV drivers, such as the AAA Car Guide website, which includes comprehensive vehicle reviews and comparisons from past editions. Additional resources like the Your Driving Costs calculator can assist consumers in estimating the cost of vehicle ownership.

AAA’s recent research highlights economic challenges faced by consumers due to depreciation and finance charges. Hybrids are noted for their low total ownership costs, especially when compared to small sedans. For EV owners, AAA offers benefits like the Mobile EV Charging Pilot, part of their roadside assistance to help members who run out of charge.
