The Insurance Information Institute (Triple-I) has initiated an awareness campaign in Baton Rouge to highlight the effects of legal system abuse on Louisiana’s economy. The campaign coincides with the opening of the state’s 2025 legislative session.

The campaign features digital billboards at bus stops and urban panels in Downtown Baton Rouge, as well as larger interstate billboards along I-110 near the State Capitol. The campaign also includes a microsite, StopLegalSystemAbuse.org, to encourage public support for legal reforms aimed at reducing rising auto and home insurance costs in Louisiana.

According to a Triple-I report released earlier this year, legal system abuse significantly impacts insurance premiums in the state, placing Louisiana among the least affordable for home and auto insurance, despite legislative improvements in 2024.

Triple-I CEO, Sean Kevelighan, remarked, “Louisiana, with the leadership of its insurance commissioner, Tim Temple, is potentially on the path toward stabilizing its insurance market. We have seen in states such as Florida that comprehensive legal reform works – leading to market stabilization, more competition, and better pricing of insurance for consumers.”

Kevelighan continued, “Louisiana lawmakers have more work ahead during this year’s legislative session and we hope the progress being made stays on course. As we continue to be inundated across the U.S. by the likes of billboard attorneys preying on vulnerable Americans and increasing insurance costs for everyone, now is the time for further action from Louisiana’s legislators.”

The rise in frivolous lawsuits by billboard attorneys is a significant challenge for Louisiana’s legal system, contributing to court congestion and a direct increase in consumer costs. This abuse is estimated to add $1,011 to the average annual household expenses in the state.
