Next month, AirPods Max will receive a software update that introduces lossless audio and ultra-low latency audio. This update aims to enhance the listening experience for users and improve performance for music production. The new features will be accessible through the included USB-C cable, allowing users to enjoy high-quality audio across various media such as music, movies, and games.

The update will enable AirPods Max to support 24-bit, 48 kHz lossless audio. This ensures the preservation of original recordings' integrity, offering listeners an authentic studio experience. Apple Music subscribers will have access to over 100 million songs in this format.

Music creators are expected to benefit significantly from these updates. The combination of lossless audio and ultra-low latency allows full utilization of AirPods Max in professional workflows on platforms like Logic Pro and other music creation applications. By using the USB-C cable, musicians can create and mix in Personalized Spatial Audio with head tracking. The headphones deliver high-resolution digital audio with low latency, enabling seamless recording and mixing without sacrificing sound quality.

Gamers and livestreamers are also set to gain from ultra-low latency audio, which reduces lag time comparable to native built-in speakers on Mac, iPad, and iPhone devices. This improvement promises smoother gameplay and more immersive livestreaming experiences.

The new features will be available as a free firmware update in April with iOS 18.4, iPadOS 18.4, and macOS Sequoia 15.4 for AirPods Max with USB-C compatibility.

AirPods Max are priced at $549 (U.S.) and come in five colors: midnight, starlight, blue, purple, and orange. They can be purchased through apple.com/store, the Apple Store app, or Apple Authorized Resellers.

Additionally, a USB-C to 3.5 mm audio cable is now available for $39 (U.S.). It allows connection of AirPods Max to 3.5 mm audio sources such as airplane audio-out ports or car stereo systems via iOS or iPadOS devices.
