The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) has issued a statement following the European Commission's recent updates on the enforcement of the Digital Markets Act (DMA). The updates, which were released on March 19, 2025, concern major tech companies Alphabet/Google and Apple.
Daniel Friedlaender, Senior Vice President and Head of CCIA Europe, commented on the situation. "The Computer & Communications Industry Association (CCIA Europe) takes note of the European Commission’s latest updates on Digital Markets Act (DMA) enforcement."
Friedlaender expressed concerns about the current implementation of the DMA. "While the DMA aims to promote competition, so far its enforcement has been marked by an opaque, discretionary process that lacks predictability and proportionality."
He further questioned the impact of the Commission's approach on digital products. "The Commission’s apparent push to impose granular design changes on digital products, impacting the user experience and security, raises questions about whether all the tradeoffs for consumers and business users have been properly considered."
Friedlaender also speculated about future implications if this trend continues in other cases. "If this pattern continues across multiple DMA cases, one must question whether the Commission’s goal is truly a well-informed and proportionate regulatory outcome that delivers any real benefits for Europeans."
