Today, Threads announced the introduction of new features aimed at enhancing user control and personalization. These updates include topics in user bios, follower-only replies and quote posts, an improved video player, among other features.

Threads aims to be a preferred platform for sharing thoughts and ideas. "These new features give you even more control over what you see, the ways you express yourself and how you connect with others," the company stated.

One of the notable features being tested is allowing users to add up to ten topics to their bio. This addition enables users to showcase their favorite communities and interests on their profiles. By tapping on these topics, users can easily connect with others who share similar interests.

Users will also encounter prompts when drafting posts, suggesting trending topics or those related to previous posts shared. This aims to assist audiences in discovering relevant content. The redesign of the timely topics tag further aids quick access to subjects of interest in the For You feed.

According to internal data from Threads, posts with tagged topics tend to receive more views than those without them, proving effective for reaching broader audiences.

Threads has also introduced options for managing interactions on posts. Users can now restrict replies and quote-posts solely to followers. This builds upon the Quote Controls feature launched in November 2024, designed to manage engagement on posts.

The approach towards political content has been updated as well. Threads has begun reintroducing civic content into its platform in a personalized manner as part of this year's announcements.

Moreover, users now have the ability to personalize their feed order. Custom feeds can be set as default when opening the app.

Enhancements have been made to the media player too, which now includes pause, play, skip buttons, and a pinned progress bar for easier navigation through videos.

"We’re excited to introduce these features," said Threads representatives. They reaffirmed their commitment "to continuing to build tools that help make Threads a space where you can be yourself and connect with others who share your interests."
