The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is urging eligible private nonprofit organizations in Kansas to apply for low-interest federal disaster loans by April 15, 2025. These loans are intended to help offset economic losses resulting from severe storms, straight-line winds, tornadoes, and flooding that occurred from April 25-30, 2024.
This disaster declaration includes the counties of Allen, Anderson, Bourbon, Chautauqua, Cherokee, Elk, Greenwood, Linn, Morris, Neosho, Pottawatomie, Wilson, and Woodson.
The SBA’s Economic Injury Disaster Loan (EIDL) program is available to nonprofits providing non-critical services of a governmental nature that suffered financial losses due to the disaster. Eligible entities include food kitchens, homeless shelters, museums, libraries, community centers, schools, and colleges.
EIDLs can be used for working capital needs caused by the disaster and are available even if there was no physical damage. The loans may cover fixed debts, payrolls, accounts payable and other bills not paid because of the disaster.
“SBA loans help eligible small businesses and private nonprofits cover operating expenses after a disaster," said Chris Stallings of the SBA's Office of Disaster Recovery and Resilience. "These loans not only help business owners get back on their feet but also play a key role in sustaining local economies in the aftermath of a disaster.”
Loan amounts can reach up to $2 million with interest rates as low as 3.25% and terms extending up to 30 years. Interest does not accrue until 12 months after the first loan disbursement. Loan amounts and terms are determined based on each applicant’s financial condition.
Applications can be submitted online at SBA.gov/disaster or through SBA’s Customer Service Center at (800) 659-2955 or via email at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov. Telecommunications relay services are available for individuals who are deaf or hard of hearing by dialing 7-1-1.
Completed loan applications must be submitted by April 15.
