As Valentine's Day transitions into Ash Wednesday, Covington, Kentucky, offers a variety of events this weekend, focusing on parade floats, wildflowers, and community service through plogging.

Patrick Applegarth, a botanist and biologist, will present a Wildflower Talk at the Behringer-Crawford Museum Education Center. The discussion will cover native ephemerals and wildflowers in the region and their importance to pollinators.

Kentucky's 3rd annual Plogging Across the Bluegrass event takes place on Saturday in collaboration with Keep Kentucky Beautiful and West Sixth Brewery. Participants can join at West Sixth Brewery Covington Haus to pick up litter while running or walking along one of three routes. Afterward, they are invited back for drinks and a complimentary lunch from Smoke Justis.

The MainStrasse Village Mardi Gras Parade by Up Over Bar is scheduled for Saturday. It features over 60 floats traveling from Main & Ninth streets to Main & Fifth streets. The parade will be followed by the MainStrasse Pub Crawl.

Live music performances include The Missy Werner Band at Molly Malone’s Irish Pub & Restaurant and Terry Harper Presents Psychostick with H1Z1 at Madison Live tonight. Other acts throughout the weekend include Jam Band Jovi and Annie in the Water at The Village Theater on Friday, Jonny Estep & Gravel Drive at The Roost Latonia on Saturday, among others.

Additional events include National Chili Day at Kenton County Public Library tonight and the Covington Farmers Market at Braxton Brewing Co., as well as a 3D Printed Celtic Knot Earrings and Pendant Workshop at Kenton County Public Library on Saturday.
