Shedd Aquarium and Abbott have announced a significant corporate donation, with Abbott and its philanthropic foundation, Abbott Fund, pledging $10 million. This investment strengthens the partnership between the aquarium and the global healthcare company, focusing on cultural, educational, and environmental enrichment in Chicago.

The collaboration dates back to 2010 when Shedd named its marine mammal pavilion the Abbott Oceanarium in recognition of Abbott's support. Since then, over 30 million visitors have interacted with various marine species at the facility. The new funding will ensure continued support for this space over the next two decades.

Dr. Bridget C. Coughlin, president and CEO of Shedd Aquarium, stated: "Situated 800 miles away from the closest ocean, Shedd Aquarium serves as a portal to life beneath the water's surface, bridging a widening gap between people and nature." She added that Abbott's contribution would help inspire future generations to value our planet.

Robert B. Ford, chairman and CEO of Abbott, emphasized their commitment by saying: "At Abbott, we believe a sustainable future starts with health, and that includes the health of our oceans and planet." He expressed pride in extending their partnership with Shedd Aquarium for another 20 years.

The Abbott Oceanarium offers numerous attractions like animal chats and encounter programs. Recent enhancements have improved visitor access to these features. Through research studies and advocacy efforts led by Shedd experts, the aquarium aims to protect both local animals and their wild counterparts globally.
