Kalp Joshi, the Human Resources (HR) manager at Amazon's RDU1 Fulfillment Center, said that the company's open-door HR policy has fostered a "people-centered workplace" conducive to team success. He shared this statement with Business Daily on February 11.
"It's [open door HR policy] a hands-on extension of our commitment to service—ensuring that support isn't behind an office door, but right there where our teams naturally gather and move throughout their day," said Joshi, HR Manager at Amazon’s fulfillment center in Garner. "This approach has strengthened relationships, built trust, and helped create a more responsive, people-centered workplace."
According to Paychex, a workplace open-door policy allows employees to freely communicate concerns, ideas, or job-related issues with supervisors and leadership. This approach is said to promote a culture of openness and trust, improve communication across all business levels, help resolve conflicts between supervisors and team members, and address issues proactively before they escalate.
Amazon employs over 24,000 people in North Carolina and maintains an "open-door" policy that encourages staff to discuss suggestions or concerns with any management level. According to their policy resource document: "We have an 'open door' policy, which means that you are welcome to discuss any suggestion, concern, or other feedback with any member of the company’s management." At the RDU1 Fulfillment Center, HR is strategically located between the building entrance and the break room for easy access while remaining outside the main work area.
Vantage Circle reports that organizations implementing an open-door approach create environments where managers are accessible, fostering transparency and encouraging proactive problem-solving before issues escalate. Workplaces with such policies reportedly experience increased employee engagement and satisfaction along with improved morale and productivity.
According to HR Executive, when HR professionals engage directly with employees on the floor, they gain better insights into daily challenges and can facilitate innovative solutions. This method not only addresses immediate concerns but also contributes to overall organizational success.
