The Covington Academy of Heritage Trades is offering spring seminars designed to equip participants with skills in historic restoration. The seminars will be held at the Enzweiler Building Institute Covington Campus, starting in March.

The Academy will conduct three two-week seminars focusing on different areas: Historic masonry and plastering from March 17-27, stained glass window repair from April 14-24, and historic carpentry from May 19-30. Classes are scheduled Monday through Thursday from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., with a cost of $400 per seminar. A $100 deposit is required upon registration, which can be completed online at the Academy's website.

Brian Miller, executive vice president of the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIANKY), emphasized the value of these seminars for those interested in developing specialized skills in historic renovation. "The Covington Academy of Heritage Trades’ spring seminars are an incredible opportunity for anyone looking to develop specialized skills in historic renovation," he stated.

Miller highlighted the benefits past students have experienced: “Students who have participated in past seminars consistently praise the program for its hands-on training and the confidence it gives them to work on historic structures with precision and respect for their legacy,” he said. He also noted that professionals in this field earn about 9 percent more than those in broader construction industries.

The CAHT offers a practical learning environment using a historic building on Madison Avenue as a "living lab." Students gain experience working alongside skilled craftspeople dedicated to their trade.

Supported by the City and administered by BIANKY's Enzweiler Trade Building Institute, the Academy provides apprenticeship-style training. Enrollment is open for individuals interested in joining the CAHT's first two-year certificate program beginning this fall.
