Hamilton County is preparing for America's 250th anniversary by inviting its citizens to participate in the America 250-Ohio Hamilton County Committee. The Board of County Commissioners is seeking 10 to 20 volunteers from registered voters in Hamilton County, Ohio, to join this committee. Interested individuals can apply through HamiltonCountyOhio.gov/250.
The committee will focus on promoting public awareness of Ohio's statewide initiatives and coordinating local events and programs leading up to the national celebration. Pavan Parikh, Hamilton County Clerk of Courts, and Elizabeth Pierce, CEO of the Cincinnati Museum Center, are co-chairing the committee.
Hamilton County has a notable history dating back to its founding in 1790. It played a significant role during the era of steamboat transportation and was an important stop on the Underground Railroad. "Hamilton County has always been a place where innovation and hard work is valued," said Commission President Denise Driehaus. She emphasized the opportunity to reflect on shared history as part of America's upcoming milestone.
Commission Vice President Stephanie Summerow Dumas highlighted Hamilton County's cultural and industrial contributions: "We are calling on residents to join us in making this celebration meaningful and diverse." Commissioner Alicia Reece added that the county's history is rich with stories of perseverance and progress.
Clerk Parikh expressed excitement about sharing stories from all parts of the county: "We encourage anyone who is engaged or even interested in local history to apply for this committee."
Hamilton County is known for being home to the first professional baseball team, the Red Stockings (1868), and Procter & Gamble (1879), one of America's enduring manufacturing companies.

The United States will celebrate its semiquincentennial in 2026. Each state has been encouraged to commemorate this event uniquely. The Ohio Commission for the Semiquincentennial was established by legislation on March 1, 2022, with a mission outlined by Ohio Revised Code (149.309).
