Uber, the global mobility platform known for its rides, delivery, and freight services, announced a donation of $3 million in rides, meals, and essentials to aid recovery efforts following the Los Angeles wildfires. This announcement was made in a January 15 post on Instagram.
According to its post, Uber partnered with jewelry company Shopcoopla to organize a donation site for LA wildfire recovery. This collaborative effort aimed to provide essential resources and support to affected communities.
As reported by Cal Matters, the January 2025 LA wildfires, including the Palisades and Eaton fires, were among California's most destructive. The fires damaged over 16,000 structures and resulted in 28 fatalities. Most of the destruction occurred in the wildland-urban interface (WUI), where human development meets natural landscapes. The Eaton Fire alone destroyed more than 9,400 structures.
Uber also collaborated with World Central Kitchen to deliver 300,000 meals to vulnerable populations and healthcare workers. According to its website, this initiative allows restaurants to receive bulk meal orders and deliver them via large-capacity vehicles to locations such as nursing homes and hospitals. Following a successful pilot in Washington D.C., the program is expanding to cities including the Bronx, Newark, Chicago, and Miami.
Uber describes itself as a global mobility platform committed to safety, innovation, and achieving full sustainability by 2040.
