Amazon has announced that its Counterfeit Crimes Unit (CCU) collaborated with Cisco to dismantle counterfeit networks, aiming to protect customers and the Cisco brand. This collaboration resulted in criminal referrals and the shutdown of two illegal networks.
According to Amazon's latest Brand Protection Report, key efforts include a federal court case where three individuals were sentenced for trafficking counterfeit Cisco products, with penalties ranging from prison time to home confinement. In another case, Onur Aksoy received a sentence of over six years in prison for operating a large-scale counterfeit scheme.
"Amazon is committed to ensuring that the products in our store are safe and authentic," said Kebharu Smith, director of Amazon’s CCU. "However, in the chance we identify counterfeit products, we work closely with brands, like Cisco, and our law enforcement partners to both protect our customers and aggressively pursue the bad actors to hold them accountable."
The CCU collaborates with brands, law enforcement agencies, and customers globally to detect, investigate, and remove counterfeit products from Amazon's stores. By gathering information and pursuing legal actions, it aims to disrupt counterfeit networks and prevent such goods from reaching consumers.
