Despite a narrow defeat to Southern Indiana, the Northern Kentucky Norse Women's Basketball team found a standout performer in freshman Kamora Morgan. Her 21-point performance earned her the title of Freshman of the Week, an accolade last achieved by Carter McCray on February 19, 2024.
Morgan entered Saturday's game with a career-high of eight points but has been a significant contributor off the bench throughout the season. She consistently scored at least six points in her previous four games, including eight against Marshall and Cedarville.
During the game against Southern Indiana, Morgan had only three points by halftime, scoring her first basket with just over a minute left in the second quarter. However, she turned things around in the second half. Entering at 6:11 in the third quarter, she played nearly continuously for the remainder of the game. Facing a 19-point deficit, Morgan made crucial plays to reduce it to 14 points. As they entered the fourth quarter down by 16, she continued to drive and score key baskets that brought them closer.
Morgan's contributions included scoring five consecutive points for her team and assisting Kalissa Lacy for a three-pointer. She finished with an impressive stat line of 21 points and five rebounds while shooting 8-12 from the field.
"We are proud of Kamora's efforts on both ends of the floor this past week," said head coach Jeff Hans. "With each practice and game she has become more and more comfortable in our system. We look forward to her continued growth!"
