Northern Kentucky University's cross country teams are set to compete in the Horizon League Championships this Saturday. The event will take place at the Alumni XC Course in Shorewood Park, Green Bay, Wisconsin. The women's race is scheduled for noon, followed by the men's race at 1 PM Eastern Time.
The men's team recently participated in the Bradley Pink Classic in Peoria, Illinois, and the Jenna Strong Invitational in Wilmington, Ohio. At Bradley, Colton O'Hara led the team with a time of 24:24.29, placing 35th among 266 competitors. Summit Northrup finished next for NKU with a time of 25:59.56. Other participants included Owen Matthews, Samsun Weldemichael, Jacob Messer, Nathan Ruth, Bryan Stoltzfus, Robert Wilke, and Stetson Childress. At the Jenna Strong Invitational, Noah Pease and Gregory Beard were among those who competed.
On the women's side at the Jenna Strong Invitational, NKU secured fourth place out of 17 teams. Lauren Mang finished 15th with a time of 19:30.9. Chloe Boa followed closely behind with a time of 19:34.0. Abby Slife and Emme Greely also placed within the top-50 finishers. In Peoria's Bradley meet, Brittany Arnold and Grace Bittle led their team while Kaitlyn Strange and others recorded sub-24-minute times.
The championships will feature all eleven Horizon League teams competing on the women's side while ten teams will participate on the men's side due to Cleveland State's absence from men's competition. In last year's championships, Youngstown State won on the men's side and Oakland took home the women's trophy.
Colton O'Hara was named to last year's All-League Second Team as NKU's sole returner recognized at that level. Last year saw NKU women finish sixth and men eighth overall.
Following this conference meet and subject to qualification criteria being met; Northern Kentucky will advance to participate in NCAA South East Regional Championship held in Rock Hill South Carolina on November 15th.
