The Cincinnati women's tennis team is set to participate in the TCU Jae Foundation Invitational, taking place at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center & Bartzen Varsity Courts in Fort Worth, Texas. The competition begins on Thursday, October 31, and will conclude on Sunday, November 3.
Cincinnati's entire roster will be featured among a field of 15 teams including Arizona, Baylor, Illinois, Kansas, LSU, Maryland, Missouri, Northwestern, Oklahoma, Rice, SMU, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Wisconsin.
Last week at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional Championships, Cincinnati secured ten singles wins and four doubles victories. Notably for the Bearcats was sophomore Gabrielle Guenther who advanced to the singles main draw round of 16 before being defeated by Tennessee's Catherine Aulia with scores of 6-3 and 6-2. Guenther achieved victories over Vanderbilt's Amy Stevens and Indiana's Nicole Sifuentes during her run.
Sophomore Sakurako Watanabe progressed through qualifying singles into the main draw bracket but was defeated in the first round by Murray State's Valeria Chaikovskaia with scores of 7-6(7) and 6-1.
In doubles play at the same event, graduate student Zeynep Erman and junior Rozalia Gruszczynska triumphed over Southern Indiana’s Antonia Ferrarini and Anais Negrail with an 8-2 scoreline.
