Cincinnati football's redshirt sophomore quarterback, Brendan Sorsby, has been named to the midseason watch list for the Manning Award. This announcement follows his addition to the Davey O'Brien Award watch list earlier in the week.
The Manning Award, established by the Allstate Sugar Bowl, honors college football achievements of Archie, Peyton, and Eli Manning. It is unique as it considers candidates' performances in bowl games during its selection process.
Sorsby is among 14 FBS quarterbacks added to this prestigious list and stands out as the only Big 12 quarterback included. Initially, 29 quarterbacks were selected before the season began; these recent additions are based on exceptional performances in the first half of the season.
In his debut season with Cincinnati, Sorsby has played a pivotal role in leading his team to a 5-2 overall record and a 3-1 standing in Big 12 play. Originating from Denton, Texas, he has completed 156 out of 232 passes (67.2%) for a total of 1,928 yards and achieved 13 touchdowns. Additionally, he leads his team with six rushing touchdowns.
Nationally, Sorsby ranks prominently across several categories: passing yards (1,928), completions per game (22.3), completion percentage (67.2%), and total offense (289.1). His standout performances have earned him recognition as a two-time Big 12 Newcomer of the Week. Notably, he recorded an impressive 478 total yards against Texas Tech and achieved a QBR of 95.8 against Houston.
The Manning Award has recognized top college football talent over its two-decade history. It boasts honorees from various conferences including nine from the Southeastern Conference and five from the Big 12 Conference.
