Bengals wide receiver Charlie Jones has been recognized as the AFC Special Teams Player of the Week following his notable performance against Cleveland. In Week 7, Jones executed a 100-yard kickoff return touchdown, providing Cincinnati with an early lead just 12 seconds into the game. This marked the longest kickoff return in the NFL this season and was the first instance of a 100-yard return under the league's new Dynamic Kickoff rule.
Jones' touchdown was only the 13th such score on a kickoff return in Bengals history and ranks as their third-longest. It also marks just the second time a Bengal has returned an opening kickoff for a touchdown, following Brandon Wilson's 92-yard effort in Week 6 of the 2019 season.
Adding to his accolades, Jones became one of only two players in Bengals history, alongside Lemar Parrish, to score touchdowns via both punt and kickoff returns during their tenure with Cincinnati. This feat follows his previous achievement of an 81-yard punt return touchdown against Baltimore last season.
In addition to his standout performance on Sunday, Jones recorded a significant play in the second quarter with a season-long 23-yard punt return that positioned Cincinnati's offense advantageously at its own 44-yard line.
This award marks Jones' first career recognition as AFC Special Teams Player of the Week. Since the start of the 2021 season, Bengals players have amassed a total of 17 weekly honors across offensive, defensive, and special teams categories—the third-highest total in that period within the NFL.
