Rayford Wilkins, Jr. Director | Morgan Stanley

Morgan Stanley has introduced AskResearchGPT, a generative AI-based assistant designed to aid its Investment Banking, Sales & Trading, and Research teams. This tool is intended to streamline the process of accessing and summarizing data from Morgan Stanley's extensive research library, which includes over 70,000 proprietary reports published each year.

Katy Huberty, Global Director of Research and Co-Chair of the Morgan Stanley AI Steering Committee, commented on the launch: “AskResearchGPT is emblematic of our tech-forward philosophy in Institutional Securities. Our most important objective is to provide our clients with world-class analysis and information to help them generate alpha. AskResearchGPT boosts our employees’ ability to support our clients with just that – better and at scale.”

The new AI assistant builds upon the existing AskResearch application by integrating OpenAI’s GPT-4 model. This enhancement allows users to synthesize unstructured data more effectively, providing comprehensive insights and summaries from various research products. The tool can be accessed across different productivity and communication platforms used by staff daily.

A unique feature of AskResearchGPT is its integration with a patented workflow solution by Morgan Stanley. This feature enables staff to transfer query findings into an email draft with a single click, allowing for easy modification before sharing with clients. The emails include hyperlinks to relevant research materials for deeper exploration.

Eden Kidner, Head of Technology Strategy for Morgan Stanley Research, stated: “AskResearchGPT gives our client-facing teams a leg up, freeing capacity to more deeply engage with clients while providing better than ever service. It is an important step in delivering a firmwide Research platform that is not only omnipresent across our tools but will ultimately extend its capabilities with other information sources, skills and languages.”

Morgan Stanley has been utilizing AI and machine learning technologies for over ten years to enhance productivity and client services. The partnership with OpenAI was announced in spring 2023 as part of their pioneering efforts on Wall Street in generative AI applications.
