If you visited downtown Covington during the recent BLINK outdoor light and art event, you likely noticed an increase in crowd size. According to data, foot traffic more than doubled compared to any other evening in 2024.

A chart illustrates peak foot traffic each night of the event compared to all other nights this year in the area where BLINK installations were featured. Saturday emerged as the busiest night, surpassing previous highs recorded during St. Patrick’s Day weekend festivities in March and the Labor Day riverfront fireworks show in September.

The figures reflect only those individuals with cell phones turned on who were moving around between 7 p.m. and midnight. It excludes residents or downtown employees present at that time.

The Placer.ai software uses data and algorithms to estimate visits, gathering information from hundreds of partner mobile apps that collect data from mobile devices.
