Uber has unveiled a series of new initiatives aimed at creating a more equitable and transparent platform for its drivers and couriers.
Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi emphasized the importance of fairness in the company's mission, stating, “We know that to be the best platform for flexible work, we must also be the fairest.”
One aspect of the new initiative is increased efforts to foster respectful interactions between riders and drivers. Riders who receive reports of inappropriate behavior will be warned and given tips from experienced drivers on how to improve their conduct. Similar measures will be implemented for delivery customers and restaurants to ensure couriers are treated with respect.
A new pilot feature will allow drivers to block riders they rate with 2 or 3 stars. This initiative builds on Uber's existing policy, which automatically un-matches drivers and riders following a 1-star rating. The feature will be available for drivers to access.
Also a part of the initiative is a move to provide drivers with greater insight into their earnings. Uber is introducing an in-app feature that details the allocation of rider fares. This feature will clarify how much of the fare goes to Uber, local government taxes, fees, and commercial auto insurance costs.
With these initiatives, Uber aims to reinforce its pledge to create a fairer environment for its drivers and couriers, enhancing their overall experience on the platform.
