Members of Local 1102 attended a citizenship clinic at Flying Food Group JFK. The announcement came in a union news release issued on July 19.

In the press release, the organization said that they hope to host more events like the citizenship clinic in the future. According to the Local 1102 RWDSU UFCW news release, clinics like this one are the first steps toward becoming a U.S. citizen.

There are 10 steps to become a U.S. citizen, according to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). First, individuals must determine whether or not they are already U.S. citizens, and if not, whether they are eligible to become citizens. After determining eligibility, individuals who qualify must prepare the Form N-400 application for naturalization and submit it along with the associated fees.

Some may be required to attend a biometrics appointment. Next comes the interview, and after that, USCIS will make a decision on the N-400 application and notify the applicant of their decision. If citizenship is granted, an applicant will next receive a note to take the Oath of Allegiance, and they’ll have to complete a questionnaire on Form N-445, report for their naturalization ceremony and check in with USCIS. Before one takes the oath, they will have to turn in their Permanent Resident card (green card).

Following the naturalization ceremony where one takes the Oath of Allegiance, they will receive a certificate of naturalization and notify USCIS of any errors before leaving the ceremony site, according to the USCIS website on steps to naturalization.

Flying Food Group is a privately owned business that provides meals to airlines and retail brands in the United States and has done so since its founding in 1983 by Sue Gin.

The Local 1102 RWDSU UFCW is the labor union representing the Retail, Wholesale, and Department Store Union District Council (RWDSU) and the United Food and Commercial Workers (UFCW). It was first chartered in the late 1930s, according to its website.
