LeAndrea Ashley, a St. Anne, IL resident, was recently promoted to Area Manager at the Amazon Monee Fulfillment Center. Ashley announced the promotion on LinkedIn two weeks ago.

“I went from a Tier 1 to an L5 in Under 5 years,” Ashley said. “I’m excited to start my new chapter.”

Ashley, was a stay at home mom until becoming an Amazon delivery driver in 2017. On her LinkedIn post, she cited her willingness to “learn everything and deliver results” as the core reason for her promotions.

According to their recruitment materials, Amazon offers a range of benefits to employees from the first day of hire. These benefits, attractive to employees like Ashley and her family, include comprehensive healthcare coverage (medical, dental, and vision), paid time off, 401(k) savings plans, paid parental leave, and various insurance options (life, disability, accident).

Employees also receive an Amazon Prime discount, access to flexible spending accounts, adoption assistance, and career development opportunities through programs like Career Choice. For parents like Ashley, these benefits can prove critical. Amazon offers different shifts and simple scheduling procedures so employees like Ashley can adjust their schedules around the demands of raising children. Overtime shifts and other options allow for increased earning potential. As in Ashley’s case, promotion opportunities are plentiful as the company grows in Illinois.

Amazon employs 40,000 people in Illinois across its distribution and fulfillment centers and other areas of operation, according to economic development data on the company’s website. Since 2010, Amazon has added $24.2 billion to Illinois’ GDP, fueling its growth as a major employer in the region, particularly in the Southwest suburbs of Chicago.

Jobs at Amazon offer competitive wages (warehouse associates often start at $17-$20/hr) paid weekly, with additional pay for overtime and holidays. Some positions also include sign-on bonuses. Amazon’s ‘Anytime Pay’ program lets employees choose their payday.

According to her LinkedIn, Ashley began her career as a tier 1 fulfillment associate at the Amazon distribution center in Monee, IL in 2019. She was previously a delivery driver for the company.
