GE HealthCare and Medis Medical Imaging have announced a collaboration aimed at advancing precision care in the diagnosis and treatment of coronary artery disease (CAD). The two companies will focus on integrating Medis Quantitative Flow Ratio (Medis QFR), a non-invasive approach to assessing coronary physiology, into GE HealthCare’s interventional cardiology portfolio built around the Allia Platform.

CAD is a type of heart disease that develops when the coronary arteries narrow, preventing the heart from delivering enough oxygen-rich blood. This narrowing can lead to angina, myocardial infarction, or even death. Traditionally, clinicians diagnose suspected CAD through invasive coronary angiography, visually interpreting an angiogram to determine whether a patient requires treatment.

The collaboration between GE HealthCare and Medis Medical Imaging aims to provide clinicians with an alternative diagnostic approach using Medis QFR. Recent studies support the benefits of QFR guidance, showing improved two-year clinical outcomes when compared with standard angiography guidance alone.

Medis has been developing post-processing software for cardiovascular images quantification for over 35 years. Their proprietary solution delivers image-based physiology of coronary obstructions based on angiography imaging analysis alone.
