The report comes on the heels of a Freelance Union and Upwork survey in 2019 that estimated that by 2027 half the U.S. workforce would be made up of gig workers.

According to a Pew Research Center survey, people using ride-sharing apps like Uber more than doubled from 2015 to 2018. Side work in the U.S. accounted for over $1.4 trillion in income for workers by the end of 2018, according to PYMNTS.
